The History of Leo the Lion
- Our school's Leo the Lion mascot was developed during the 2016 - 2017 school year.
- The idea stemmed from a spirit wear sale as PALS wanted to have a consistent lion mascot for our school. Before Leo the Lion, there were only generic lion images used to represent our school.
- Port Washington State Bank graciously agreed to provide their marketing services and worked with PALS to design three different images of a new lion.
- After we developed the three images, families voted online for their favorite lion.
- Once Leo was chosen, we asked each classroom to think of names for our new lion.
- We narrowed it down to three and had the school vote for their favorite.
(There were 138 votes for Leo. Second was Linc with 91 and Abe came in third with 56.)
- With the lion image chosen and the name voted upon, Leo the Lion was officially born!
- Leo started popping up all around the school - not just on spirit wear clothing but also in newsletters, banners, teachers announcements, PBIS Student of Great Character certificates, and more!
- In addition, Mr. Nygaard, our Art Teacher, created and painted a mural of Leo in the Multi-Purpose Room and two murals that are hanging outside welcoming families and students to our school.
- Leo has given our school a cohesive look as it helped to develop our school pledge and school song that are read and sung every month at the school's PBIS assemblies.
- Leo has become a part of Lincoln Elementary and we hope all students (past, present and future) who pass through this school will fondly remember Leo the Lion!
Special thanks to Jennifer Schowalter, PALS Vice President at the time, who worked countless hours in creating the new lion mascot.
